Reason Amplifier Company was born from two men and one vision - the desire to evolve the art of guitar tone with the next great tube circuit. realizing that the market was stacked with hoards of great sounding (but very similar) amps, they both shared the notion that if they were going to introduce a new amp, they had to have a "Reason" to do so. Out of this thought an amp, and aptly named amp company, was born.
The Visionaries
Obeid Kahn: Obeid has a unique approach to tube amp design that stems from who he is. First, and foremost, he is a world-class guitar player, logging more stage time per year than most guitar gods. Secondly, he is a vintage amp enthusiast, well acquainted with the "magic" of those classic circuits. And finally, Obeid is a highly skilled electrical engineer.
During his tenure at St. Louis Music Company (where he designed the tube amps for Crate and Ampeg), he got a first hand look at the big business of guitar amps...but it was his undeniable ear for tone (and amazing guitar playing) that made him a local legend to those who lined up for the amps he built on the side.
Anthony Bonadio: With his roots in a 7' x 18' basement in Lansing, Michigan, Anthony first founded Reason and began making high end cabinets for some of the most prestigious boutique amp companies in the country. Despite his success and reputation for quality, Anthony always knew that his company (named Reason Amplification from day one) would eventually become a full fledged amp manufacturer. It was just a matter of finding the right amp design. Moving his business to St. Louis would finally connect him to that design.
The Reason
Anthony had always stood steadfast in the notion that when he finally introduced an amp to the world that it needed to stand out. It just so happened that in the same town, Obeid had designed a circuit that did just that...and with the reputation that they both had developed in local tone circles, it was then just a matter of time their paths would cross. Obeid made the first step when he called Anthony out of the blue. He brought his new creation over to Anthony that afternoon.
Obeid had created a new variation of the multi-channel amp - what would become known as StackMode. In principle, StackMode is very simple - a means of arranging two independent channels in series. In practice however, the power of StackMode becomes apparent, as it allowed the user to tweak the performance parameters of the amp in ways previously not possible. Needless to say, Anthony now had his "Reason" to sell amps, and with Obeid as his new business partner, the Reason StackMode Series of amplifiers was born.
